FAQs

Are NZHOMEWARE basin wastes suitable for New Zealand standard basins?
What materials are NZHOMEWARE basin pop up waste made from?

Choosing the Right Basin Waste

A basin waste connects the basin to the plumbing below and allows water to drain. The correct choice depends mainly on whether the basin has an overflow, as well as the waste size, thread length and plumbing connection.

Check for an overflow

A basin with an overflow normally requires a slotted or overflow-compatible waste. A basin without an overflow usually requires an unslotted or non-overflow waste.

Always check the basin specification before ordering. Explore compatible above-counter basins if you are planning a new vanity setup.

Confirm the size and thread length

Check the basin waste-hole diameter and make sure the threaded section is long enough for the basin and any separate benchtop.

This is especially important when installing a basin on one of our bathroom vanity tops.

Choose the waste style

Standard and mushroom pop-up wastes offer different cap shapes, but compatibility should come before appearance.

Chrome, matt black, brushed nickel, gunmetal and brushed gold finishes can coordinate with basin mixers and taps, although finish shades may vary between ranges.

Check the bottle trap

A bottle trap is useful where pipework remains visible beneath a wall hung bathroom vanity. Confirm the inlet size, wall connection and adjustment range before installation.

For enclosed plumbing and additional storage, compare floorstanding bathroom vanities.

Choose the waste, trap, basin and vanity together so the plumbing position and cabinet layout remain compatible.
