Choosing a Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink

Stainless steel kitchen sinks are practical, durable and easy to coordinate with different benchtops, cabinetry and tapware. Choose from compact single bowls, larger utility sinks, double bowls and models with integrated drainboards.

Check the cabinet size

Confirm the sink’s external dimensions and the minimum cabinet width recommended for the model. Allow enough internal space for mounting clips, waste fittings, pipework and nearby drawers.

A 600mm sink will not automatically fit every 600mm cabinet, so review the technical drawing before the cabinetry or benchtop is manufactured.

Choose the bowl configuration

A single-bowl sink provides more uninterrupted washing space for large pots and trays. A double-bowl sink creates separate washing and rinsing areas, while a drainboard provides a dedicated drying surface.

Also check the bowl depth, as deeper sinks require more space beneath the benchtop for plumbing and storage.

Confirm the installation method

Depending on the model, the sink may support top-mount, undermount or flush-mount installation. Do not assume every sink suits every method.

The benchtop cut-out must follow the supplied drawing or template, particularly for undermount and flush-mount installations.

Check the waste and included parts

Confirm whether the sink includes the waste, overflow, strainer and mounting clips. Waste position can affect pipework and usable cabinet storage.

Match the sink and tapware

For large or double-bowl sinks, a swivel or pull-out mixer can improve reach and everyday cleaning. Browse kitchen and laundry tapware and kitchen mixer taps before finalising the layout.

Compare our wider range of kitchen sinks, or choose ceramic butler sinks for a deeper apron-front design.

For utility spaces, explore matching laundry cabinets and tubs.
